I'd like to know how much i should expect to pay for a 00 or 01 Opel Astra in Ireland and also if it would be worth getting one from the UK instead? I would also like to know if i would need to get the British number plates changed over here in order for it to be legal to drive......
 
Have a look at some of the sites like carzone.ie & cbg.ie to see what 2nd hand car prices are like (knock off a bit for haggling). If you import a car from the UK, you will have to pay the VRT, which can be calculated here https://www.ros.ie/VRTEnquiryServlet/showCarCalculator Have a look at boards.ie also, the motoring forum goes through the steps with importing a car. In general, I believe there is not much money to be saved unless you're importing an expensive/luxury car, or unless you're looking for something specialised or rare.
