hey everyone,
my boyfriend is working in the construction industry for the last 8 years. He is currently not working but due to go back in april, this is the third time this has happened this year. Every time, he gets a letter from his employer stating that this is not a threat of redundancy or a form of notice. So he is in and out of the social welfare signing on and signing off. So my question is as his job wouldn't be deemed safe could he approach his boss and ask him for his redundancy? he's getting pretty sick of being in limbo and i think he just wants to cut his ties and move on.

any advice greatly appreciated

Re: redundancy question?

But surely he gains nothing by this approach? He is effectively refusing a job by asking for redundancy in SW eyeys so won't be able to sign on when not working and may be disqualified. My advice is keep looking for alternative employment while picking up whatever this employer has for him.

Re: redundancy question?

hi welfarite,
thanks for the quick reply. I get your point and im inclined to agree with you. Its just the being idle is getting him down and he's trying to explore his options. I guess his main concern is if the company go bust will he be left high and dry without a redundancy payment?!
(I'm sorry if this doesn't make sense but i don't know anything about the redundancy system)

Re: redundancy question?

If the company goes bust he applies through the Insolvency Fund for his redundancy money
