Should Dell honour a €25 discount offer?

Dell are advertising €25 off laptops on their website.
When I chatted to one of their representatives they said that the offer isn't valid any more.
I would have thought that they have to honour an offer that's advertised on their website? Are they allowed not to honour it?

They don't need to honour it. All advertising is an "invitation to treat". You could make a complaint about false advertising but its hardly worth the effort.

That's not accurate. Advertising is not an 'invitation to treat'.

Items for sale on a website are placed in the same class as goods on a shelf in a shop so an item can be 'listed' at a certain price, the potential customer's offer then being made by selecting the item (into basket etc). The seller then decides whether to accept the offer.

OPs description sounds a little different to this in that the website was 'advertising' a particular deal so there may be an issue here. However, I've had a quick look at the dell.ie website and can't see any reference to €25 off laptops.

Without seeing the offer details and T&Cs, it's impossible to say.
