Should apartment block insurance cover rodent damage?

I had an issue recently where a rat somehow gained access to the cavity between the plasterboard interior and brick exterior of my apartment. The rodent chewed through one of the alarm cables above one of the windows. The result of this is that I cannot activate the alarm because the system thinks there is an open window, but the doors are closed.

What I need to do is remove plasterboard at the point where the wire enters the wall and rewire the severed connection. I would also like to see how the rodent gained access, and plug any hole if necessary. I can't imagine all of this to be a cheap fix. I have asked the management company would the insurance possibly cover this. They have gone off to ponder my request.

Just wondering if I have a case?

Thanks,

Nope. Without checking a wording, to the best of my recollection that type of thing specifically rodents is excluded.

A trace and access claim would also only be valid if an insured peril were to have operated. So no luck that way either.

You will also probably find that there is chunky enough excess on your block policy which will negate any point in making a claim!

Sorry.
