Ok, bit of a complicated one here. I bought our family home, which is a council house in January this year. All three of our names are on the mortgage as this was required by the council. Monthly payments at the moment are 499.36 and I receive 77 euro TRS each month. From what I can see, this is TRS for one person, me. Neither of my parents work. Is it possible that they can claim TRS or is it just me who can claim it as I am paying the mortgage?
[broken link removed] 10. I am not working. Am I entitled to TRS?
Yes. The introduction of mortgage TRS extended mortgage interest relief to non-taxpayers. Since 2002, you do not have to be earning a taxable income to be eligible for TRS.
Do you mean you are renting in Dublin and do not claim the rent allowance but claim the TRS on the council house you purchased in which your parents live?
Yes. I live and rent in Dublin, but claim TRS on the house my parents live in. No rent allowance claimed. When the solicitor was tying everything up, she included a statement that said I was living in Dublin for monetary reasons, but that the house would indeed be my PPR when I move home.
