Hi all, just looking for advice. My husband was on jobseekers benefit for 4 months. He then got employment for a 6 month contract. He is due to finish it next week but has only worked 25 weeks. This means he will be claiming again but its automatically linked back to his last claim, meaning he will only have another 5 months of jobseekers benefit to claim. Whereas if he had got 26 weeks work he would have started a new claim & got 9 months. Is there any way around this at all? It seems so unfair. Hopefully his boss will give him 1 more week. He also have lots of holiday pay due to him if that would help in anyhow. I appreciate any advice. Thanks

Did he have holidays due? After six months work he should have two weeks holidays or holiday pay due. This should give him 2 more PRSI contributions

Yes he has 10 days holidays due but I thought this would be just paid in with his wages on the week he finishes up? Would he need to ask for his holidays to be paid the following week or how does it work? Thank you for your reply

His holiday pay should be paid in the same way as if he were continuing in the job but taking the normal 2 week summer break. ie. 3 weeks pay on the day he is leaving which includes 3 PRSI contributions

Black sheep thanks a million for letting me know all that. Is the holiday pay automatically done like that or would he need to ask HR to do it the way you were saying ?

Yes it should be done as described, but you will have payslip and P45 so you can double check
