shop pulling a fast one

hi. i ordered and paid for timber flooring throughout my house, i gave the store the measurements and they did the rest including sending out a carpenter to put the wood down.
seems there was three unopened packs of wood which was returned to the shop by the carpenter. no talk of a credit note or anything until i phoned the owner who admitted there was a return.
this seems like some kind of scam as only for i noticed three unopen packs in the house and next thing they are gone, carpenter admitted on orders to return all wood to shop.
am i entitled to my money back or do i have to take a credit note here.
it all seems a bit fishy so be aware all when having wood fitted that you are not paying for extra which is being returned to shop.
any opinions much appreciated

Depends, depends- did you get a firm, fixed quote for supply and fit based on measurements you gave? If so the shop may have sent out extra packs to allow for waste, errors etc. Those packs not used are then returned- you haven't paid for them as such, only to have a given area floored, which was done, as per the quote you got. Hwever, if they gave you a quote based on the number of packs required and were charging you based on the number of packs used (as advised by carpenter at the end of the job) then that is a different matter altogether. You need to clarify this important distinction before proceeding any further.

they gave me a quote based on the number of pack required. i paid up front. when i phoned shop owner re. pack taken back he said yes, there was a mistake so i am going in tonight. i am sure they were pulling a fast one, only for i was in teh house then floor was being put down, i would not have known there were spare unopen packs. only for i phoned owner, there would have been no come back
what are my rights here
