hi, my mother left her (antique) engagement ring in to a jewellers for repair, she was told it would take 5 - 10 days that was 3 weeks ago and there is no sign of it back in the shop, they have been fobbing her off with excuses but she is really worried and upset. I am going in to them tommorow morning, i have no idea what rights i have but feel like calling the guards in and treating it as robbery, i am probably over reacting but i too am very upset for my mother (who is 79). Please tell me how to deal with this shop. Thanks in advance

make sure you have the receipt for leaving it for repair........

I would have thought it was their responsibility and would be covered by their insurance. However, I am not a solicitor this is just my opinion.

Hope they find it!

we do have the receipt, haven't got an actual admission that they have lost it just that its on its way from another shop or the manager has it etc etc. I know insurance will cover value but as i said its my mothers engagment ring, she is distraught there is no monetary value on it.

If it was me I would contact them in writing and give them a definite deadline to produce the ring, say Monday. Tell them you want an appointment with the manager and nothing less than a full explaination will do. You really need to emphasise that you are deadly serious and you are prepared to take them to the cleaners if they don't produce it asap.

I made enquiries afew months ago in a jewellers shop to have my engagement ring repaired. I asked where my ring would be repaired and was told it would be sent by regeristered post to dublin. I then asked would their insurance cover it if it got lost and was told that I would have to have it insured on my house insurance and then it would be covered 50-50. I have yet to get it fixed as this didnt seem right to me. Anyone out there that might be able to clarify this.
