Shipping Furniture From USA

Hi,

Going to be furnishing our new home over the Summer and would be interested in taking a trip to the US (probably Florida) to pick up some housewares and furnoture. Does anyone have any experience on shipping containers from USA - who is best? what sort of cost would be involved? what custom taxation exists?

I was speaking to friends in New York recently and they were commenting on the number of Irish families moving lock, stock and barrel back to Ireland over the last five years.

The Irish Immigrant newspapers in New York are full of ad's for related services. Im sure the same ads are on the Irish Immigrant websites.

A word of warning - a friend of mine had his entire container impounded by custom and excise when he included two undeclared motorbikes at the back of the container!

Also be careful US beds are different sizes to european sizes so if you want to get a new mattress it may prove to be quite expensive.
