Sheriff on the way - what will they take?

Hi,

Sheriff is on the way to a relatives house and they rang me in a panic. Its just a private dwelling with very little of value in it. What are they likely to take? The car is in the wives name so can they take that as the debt is registered against husband. His wive would have some small items of value as she has a sewing business so would have a valueable machine associated with it.
Will they take santa's presents for example?
 
He will take nothing. Rest easy.

I don't know why they even bother sending the sheriff to private residences? It is always a waste of everyones time and effort.
 
If he files for bankruptcy and is successful will this discharge the debt?
