Sheep grazing - farmers rights

Hi,
A farmer has asked if he could graze half a dozen sheep or so in our field.

The farmer first offered a nominal amount per sheep per month and then suggested that he would give us some 'lamb chops' when the time came. We are not too interested in making money but the sheep would help keep the grass down and we are not using the field.

If we allow the farmer to use the land over time would he gain an entitlement to the land, a grazing right or some other right to use the land.

Other than not allowing the sheep in the first place what can we do to protect our property.

thanks.

Charge him one Euro, that should solve the problem. He is then renting your field and would have no entitlement. Put him off after eleven months and leave empty for a month. As far as I know that used to be the way it was done.
