Shared Ownership.... Where do I start???

I am interested in the Shared Ownership scheme but so far, haven’t been able to find much info on it. I understand how it all works in general – I read the Citizens Information Website – but where can I get better info?? The technicalities of it all……. The South Dublin County Council site is just BRUTAL!!

These are prob stupid questions but I really don’t know much about it all…..
How does it work?? Do I pick a house/apartment and then apply for the shared ownership loan? Or do I apply first and then go house hunting? How long does the application process take??

I read somewhere that the max is €300,000. Is that under certain conditions or is that across the board the maximum available? If I did find a property that was over that amount could I still apply for it to the value of €300k?

Currently I have seen an apartment in Ballycullen that I would be interested in. Should I approach the vendor first or have the application processed?

How much do I have to hand over straight away? Deposit of €1,270 plus the €3k legal fees thing or would it be a huge chunk of money. If I do manage to buy a 2 bed apt, can I rent out the second room? Or is that not permitted?

Any help, guidance or assistance with all of this would be much appreciated………..
Thanks

Hi queeny,

You need to fill out the forms first then send them to the council. then they will tell you how much it is. it is different for different councils.we got 185000 and bought a 3bed semi for 180. im not sure on the renting of a room. you wont need the deposit of 1,27o until you have a house found and approved and all that. we didnt have to pay any solicter fees. and oh had to go for a mettting with the council a while after they got the forms to ask about income and all that kinda stuff. its a great scheme, council can be a nightmare. they even sent there surveyor to the wrong house on us and we got delayed another 6weeks! step one is get those forms in!

Thanks for your reply.
I guess I just call them and ask for the forms as I can't find them online.....
I suppose I've nothing to loose by filling them in.

Thanks again
