Hi all,

Long time, no speak. Years in fact. An older, wiser and more financially solvent me has some cash to invest for the kids. I was wondering if any one could recommend a share dealing company which will allow me open an account for my 2 year old. I want to buy shares up to the value of the small gift exemption each year and leave it for the young lad. Preferably I would like to have control but not ownership.
Can this be done? Thanks.

Set up a bare trust, that way any growth is treated as belonging to your son.

Interesting, never heard of a bare trust before(learn something new everyday!), after a quick read by google search, it looks in principle like a good tax efficent setup for you children.
Anybody know if they are expensive to create/setup and/or maintain, i.e. are there any tax declaration work to be completed on annual basis with an accountant?
thanks

Hi, I'm interested in resurrecting this thread if anybody can help?

I'd like to invest the max. allowed tax free yearly gift to a child (6000 euro i.e. 3000 per parent) in the stock market.
Is it possible to open a stock-broking A/C in a parent's name & use a bare trust (or other legal vehicle) so that a child is the beneficiary of the A/C?
I know it's possible to do this for unit linked funds through Aviva, Irish Life etc but their annual fees are typically >1.5%.
Thanks for your help.
