Share certificate for Bank of Ireland shareholding

I've had a small number of BofI shares for years.

I have no idea how many since I lost the share cert years ago.

Today, I received two emails. One about a dividend payment that will be made electronically. The other about "dematerialisation" and no more share certs.

To check out dematerialisation, I have to register with Computershare. To do this, I need the Shareholder Reference Number, which I don't have.

In short, how can I re-establish ownership of my shares and normalize it?

The Bank's Registrar (per their Investor Relations webpage) is:

Computershare Investor Services (Ireland) Limited, 3100 Lake Drive, Citywest Business Campus, Dublin 24, D24 AK82, Ireland. Telephone: + 353 1 247 541.

I'd give them a call, explain the situation and expect that they'll be able to help.

You might run into an issue with them looking to apply a charge, to arrange a new share cert, so ask what the alternatives are:

* can they hold them electronically for you?

* can they transfer them electronically to your Stockbroker account (if you have one)?

* can they sell them for you?

Check what, if any costs, will apply to each option available.

OP, I had the very same thing today.

The reference on my bank account is the Shareholder Reference Number. It's 11 digits long, starting with a letter and then 10 numbers.

I was able to register with Computershare, but have not looked into replacing the share certificate.

If it was a simple enough process, i would just sell the small amount of shares I have.

Somehow I don't think that will be the case.
