I would like to set up a charitable organisation. Can anyone advise what is the best options for this? Also I noticed some charities come under society, trust, fund and or foundation - what is the purpose of this?
thanks.

There really is no such thing as 'setting up a charity'. You may register a company or form an unincorporated body that can then apply for charitable tax exemptions with Revenue.

Lots of good information here

In my view the best way is to set up a company limited by guarantee. You will need 7 founding members to the memorandum and articles of association.

You need to get the sample memo and arts and have them approved by Revenue prior to incorporation. Its not as simple as just applying either they are very strict on giving out charity numbers.

The company will have to audited each year and this can be expensive. What area does your organisation intend to work in.
