Setting a price for mileage

I've just started a new job in accounts and the boss has given me the job of working out how much we should reimburse employees for mileage they incur...I'm not too sure where to start in order to do this calculation. Is there a standard amount set by Revenue.ie?

Anything [broken link removed]. These are usually max rates allowed by revenue.
Many employments now give a motor mileage car allowance and these are taxable

If it's any help, this link will bring you to the rates agreed for civil servants mileage rates (from Dept of Finance website)

Civil servants seem to do quite well with regards to mileage rates. I'm in private industry and receive 64c per mile. Although I do consider this amount to be too little and barely sufficient to cover the costs incurred in using your private car for business mileage.

a 1.5 Litre car is 1500 CC.

not always so. Engines are usually rounded to the nearest 0.1 of a litre by the manufacturers but the true size is rarely this. This can make a big difference, especially when you get near the VRT band limits.

Example - an engine designated 1.9 litre by the manufacturer may be 1896cc or 1910cc. to the taxman though, the first case is classified as a 1.9 and gets lower car tax and VRT rate. On the other hand the second example is classified as a 2.0 litre and suffers higher costs.
