Sentinel card protection giving full details to Pinnacle

This is for anyone who used Sentinel car protection services for their credit card in the past. I used them for a couple of years and cancelled it about 3 years ago as it wasn't worth my while keeping it on. Then yesterday I received a letter from a company called Pinnacle Card Protection Services stating that they received my details from AIB credit card services, asking me to confirm my details were correct, and stating that they would charge my credit card with the renewal premium on Feb 28th. They had the details of my credit card (and even a card I cancelled about 4 years ago) as well as my name and address obviously. I rang AIB who denied any knowledge of this and said they would never give out this information and that it must have been Sentinel who gave them the details as Pinnacle took over Sentinel. So I rang Pinnacle who, after going through a number of questions, admitted that it was Sentinel who gave them the information and that they must have forgotten to inform them that I had cancelled the policy 3 years ago. I then informed them that I was not availing of this 'service' as I had cancelled it three years back so they updated my profile to cancelled!
A couple of things bother me about this. First off, how can Sentinel give me information away like this without consulting me first? Secondly, how were they able to get my new address? At least they sent a letter out in advance so I don't have to go chasing them but it is still very annoying that these details can be passed around so easily. Has anyone else come across this before?
 
got that same letter today, and promptly rang Pinnacle, as i thought that i had cancelled this years ago, but they had

full details of my new address, which i just moved into last december, also updated details of my chip+pin aib visa.

anyway, i'll bet Pinnacle will be inundated with cancellation calls from AIB Visa card holders, who thought thet had cancelled the Sentinal service long ago. the fact that the charge is only levied once a year from the CC account probably means that most ppl overlook this.

anyone, mine is cancelled now.

The same Sentinel (or whatever they call themselves) billed me on a cancelled credit casying they had no way of finding out from AIB that it was cancelled. It was reversed out fully in the end after I raged at their slow moving and dim witted call centre in the North of England somewhere . That would have been 2 years ago.

NOW I hear on this thread that AIB are supplying UP TO DATE information, in this case an up to date ADDRESS to these phúcks who claim not to know that Cards have been cancelled ...etc and them getting full update from AIB all along

You have a serious complaint against both AIB and Sentinel (or whatever they call themselves) . If they contact me again I will kill someone

Oh my god they did the same to me.

I didn't get a letter though, just seen a transaction on my bill for €16 for Pinnacle.

I rang AIB visa who said it was for card insurance and they gave me the number.

Like other posters I had been with Sentinel but cancelled policy 1.5 years ago and had even changed card number (card got stolen) - how they had my new card number I don't know but I had 7 phone calls (!!!!) to try to get my money back. They would not refund it to my credit card but insisted that it needed to be sent by cheque.
I had the added confusion of having moved house & getting married, new name and no house number.

First cheque or so they claimed was made out to my maiden name and sent to old address despite them "updating my contact information" the first time I rang.

Evetually gpt second cheque, 2 and half months after I first been in contact !!

A quick question on this topic, from yet another former Sentinel member - although I haven't been 'done' by them yet...

If they try to bill the (since cancelled) credit card on which I paid my Sentinel subscription 2yrs ago, and the payment is obviously rejected as the card no longer exists, could this affect my credit rating?

Once they Bill the cancelled credit card will meteriously Rise from The dead and you will be whacked for the €40 Tax and the Sentinel amount . Even if you get the sentinel amount back the €40 tax is now due.

Try emailing sentinel . Tell them you wish to cancel and how does one do it.

People should NEVER go near Sentinel, it is inertia sales at its worst !

similar story to me - and for 35000 other aib visa account holders apparently

if the amount has not yet been debited from your account all you have to do is contact aib visa - with details of your policy number & premium that should be on the letter from Pinnacle and they will look after it from there.. well thats what I was told anyway.
