Re: Senior Executive Officer interviews- Local authority

Do you know which local authority you will be working for?
If you do research it.
All local authorities have web sites.
Have a very good idea of the running of the local authority, the services it provides etc.
There are so many areas you could work in from roads to planning to general admin to HR.
Visit your local library and look at annual reports.
Look at any new legislation whoch may come up in the interview.
Generally the interviews follow a set pattern as they have to grade people in order to place them on a panel.
You get marks for things like eduction, third level courses, languages etc.
also relevant work experience.
decide why you want the position....what particular areas of the local authority are you interested in.

Many thanks for that. I am useless at listing my strengths and weaknesses>? Describing what makes a good leader? how others would describe me etc

Have a look on the internet for interview techniques and have a look at some of the sample answers
Compare the "high level nonsence" to you and see how you could relate it to your situation
There is nothing wrong with l;earning off stuff

It is all part of the interview game that you must play

recent thread might be of interest — it's for a different kind of position, but some of the advice might apply to your own case...
