semi-solid wood floors rising

We moved into our new house last year and had semi-solid wood flooring put down throughout the upstairs (excluding bathroom). A couple of areas appeared, soon afterwards, to be rising. We have called out the contractor who supplied and fitted it as it seems to be getting worse. He removed the skirting closest to the areas that were rising and told us to turn on the heating regularly as he suggested it was moisture rising from the floor that was causing the problem. We have concrete floors upstairs. We have been in the house for almost a year and the heating was on regularly during that time and for 3 to 4 months prior to floors being fitted. He is due to come back this weekend again. My question is this: is it possible that what he said is true. We found these said contractors to be a right bunch of messers at the time of fitting despite they having a good reputation. Have we any comeback now or does anyone know what could be causing the problem besides their suggestion of moisture levels. The floors are not splitting but the areas that are rising seem to be spreading and causing a bubble like effect on floor.

Any advice appreciated.

They weren't in the house long before they were fitted and I did ask the contractor at the time about it but he said it was not an issue with the semi solid

Did the contractor check the sub-floors for moisture levels before fitting? Do you know what manufacturer produced the flooring? If so, look up their technical guidance and look for their recommendations with regard to aclimatising the product to the environment. Moisture levels and aclimatisation are issues a fitter should be concerned with for semi-solid flooring.

We still have some of the flooring in their original packaging in the garage so I'll check that and see who made it and see what the say about aclimatisation. If I'm remembering correctly the fitter had said that the moisture levels were ok but I reckon them not leaving the product in the house prior to fitting is probably the issue. Not looking forward to having this out with them as I've said previously they were a nightmare to deal with. Thanks for the suggestions so far.

We had the same problem with our home. The builder, after much pressure. replaced the floor.
The flooring had been stored outside before fitting. We had the same debate before he fitted the floor about moisture issues. He insisted that it was not an issue nowadays. When we had curling of the boards he replaced it. Good luck Browtal

It is more than likely that the floor was laid right up to the walls. There should be a gap between the floor and the wall. If the skirting is taken off you would see a gap. Most important, does the contractor know what he is doing ?? Did he have any references as the whole lot might have to be ripped up as semi solid floors are glued together and to remove one board will mean removing the lot.
