Selling without an estate agent

Ok we are serious considering selling up early next year giving how strong prices are. We bought late 2011 and want to buy my wife’s home house from her Mother.

Is it possible to sell our housewithout an estate agent? I see adverts on daft that have online bids. Can we sell this way if selling ourselves and is there any downside selling it ourselves without an estate agent to take a %?

Yes you can sell yourself, agree a price with a buyer then your solicitor deals with their solicitor.

The downside is you would not be good at weeding out the messers or administering the bidding process to maximise the sale price. I sold privately in the past but would not do it today.

The likes of https://www.auctioneera.ie/ seem to be a lot more competitive than the high street agents and might be worth considering.

We bought & sold our house privately last time, about 5 years ago. I won't be selling again, but if I really had to, I would sell again privately. You can obviously put it on Daft, but also word of mouth - let people (friends/work colleagues etc) know you're selling or about to, and you'd be surprised what could happen. That's how it worked for us, so no we didn't advertise & did not have to deal with bids. But we got the price we wanted & that it was valued at.
