Selling to Someone Purchasing Under Shared Ownership

Hi,
This is my first post, so please bear with me! Just wondering if anyone has ever sold a property to a person purchasing under Dublin City Councils Shared Ownership Scheme. We are in this position at the moment with our apt, and the sale is now over 4 month on, and we're getting quite frustrated. According to the estate agent, in this circumstance the contracts will be signed and the sale will close all in the one day, and he felt that the whole process would take 3 months max. Our solicitor has said that she finds this impossible to believe, and has only 2 weeks ago had any contact from Dublin City Councils solicitors regarding the sale. She feels that we're at least 6 weeks away from closing, but estate agent keeps insisting we're only 2 weeks away. Just slightly confused, and was wondering if anyone has sold this way before, and how long the whole process took?

A. Don't listen to the EA at this stage.
B. Listen to the solicitor - she is the one at the coal face and is dealing with the Council. They control the purse strings and will dictate the pace.

It may be that the prospective purchaser is very keen but they are reliant on the Council for funds. Once the Council sign Contracts it is likely to be a fairly short process thereafter.

Sympathise with your situation, recently sold our home in same circumstances, went sale agreed in August and we just moved into our new home 4 weeks ago! The Council are unbelievably slow, we got frustrated after hearing nothing for months, no offence but EA would tell ye mass, I took the bull by the horns and rang the council solicitors myself, they sent out the contracts a week later and closed in about 4 after that. Council said they were up to their eyeballs in purchases and would thats why they take so long in processing! Have friends in similar positions so its the norm as regards the Council I"m afraid. Good luck with it all!
