Hi All,
I've been trying to sell my house for the last few months, and I got married a few weeks ago.
My wife also owns a house.
What happens now as regards tax if I sell my house ?
Will I be charged CGT on the sale ? Or do I have a certain amount of time in which to sell it tax free (as my principal private residence) ?
Any advice would be much appreciated !!
Thanks !

As it was your PPR you will not have any tax to pay. This will remain the case for one year from the date you moved out, even if you rent it out for some or all of that period.

I checked this out and in general people dicsuss that the house shouls be sold in 'one year' its not that simple. I asked revenue and they said once a reasonable effort is done to sell the house within the year, but as the revenue said that 'if you were selling yoir house in a rural location and there wasn't a big market for that type of property, why should that person be penalised by coming from a rural area' so its showiing a genuine attempt to sell the house is the important factor' ... also i think with a falling market that its about trying to sell within the time frame ... i would be interested if you get written information or other information in relation to this...........
