Selling house to local council or HSE

I was told that a house in my estate was sold to one of the above. I am thinking about selling my own house and was wondering should I go down this route rather than getting an estate agent? What is the process involved(who do you contact etc), and would you get market value? Or can you keep your house and maybe get some tenants from those sources for maybe ,5 or 10 years? Thanks
 
I never heard of the hse purchasing houses but I know the county council definitely do. Contact the housing section of your local council directly and they might be interested. A friend of mine recently sold his house this way and he got a good enough price in the current market. Obviously he did not have the added cost of estate agent fees.
 
I contacted my local council last week about my own property. Was told that there is a freeze at the moment. No houses are being purchased for the unforseeable future. boo... :(
