maybe I imagined this but I'm pretty sure there was a scheme in place at one time where you could sell your property to the LA and keep a certain amount of the sale price (30% sticks in my mind) and the LA would also provide you with accomodation in one of their units, most probably a 1 bed flat that you would then pay rent on. I think it was aimed at older people who no longer had use for a 2/3/4 bedroom house and we're looking for something smaller.
does/did that scheme actually exist and if so does anyone know the name of it?
 
Yes it did but local authorities exceeded their targets and ran out of money, I was selling mine to the council in 2019 but they pulled out mid way due to lack of funding
