Selling a house - what are the timeframes involved?

An offer is made and it's accepted.

Deposit is paid and estate agent sends out contracts to owners solicitor.

Owner's solicitors answers all the buyers solicitors questions.

If the buyer's solicitor is happy with all the answers how long would it take to sign contracts?

I know this question is like "how long is a piece of string?" but if anyone could let me know the timeframes and fill in any steps above that I may have missed I'd be much obliged. My fiend is currently selling her house and she was asking me could I post here for her.

There's so many variables.

If as you say, all pre-contract questions answered:
1. Has the loan offer and loan pack issued to the buyers solicitor from the mortgage lender? and if yes, are all the conditions acceptable?
2. Has the buyer carried out a structural survey?

If yes to both, then no legal reason why contracts can't be signed straight away.

At the very least 6 weeks, more likely to be around 8 to 10 weeks for a normal no-problem sale.The mortgage application and getting life insurance can be more time-consuming than you might think. Also keep on top of things by phoning your estate agent and solicitor, broker, building society, life insurer etc for updates frequently, don't just let things go. Better to be a pest by chasing people on the phone to make sure your issue is the one they do next in the pile.
