Hi,

My husband is self-employed and is also taking on a part-time PAYE job.
Am I right in thinking that he will now be entitled to the PAYE tax credit?
If he is, I presume that credit can only be used for his PAYE job and only up to the value of gross tax due from that job? (i.e. can't be transferred to his self-employed income)

Thanks,
L

he will be entitled to the paye credit but he may not get the full amount. this will depend on his actual paye income. the amount of the paye allowance is tierd and depends on the actual income. for example if the paye incoem is only €1,000 in a year he will not get the full paye allowance. i think from memory it goes up in a scale to about €5,000. the best thing that you can do is to ring your local tax officea and ask them what credit exactly he will get

Thanks Viztopia. I rang Revenue today and they confirmed that and gave him the tax credit.

Any idea on PRSI? Is he entitled to Class A contributions from his PAYE job?

Cheers,
Lufinn

Class A PRSI will be paid by his employer (assuming that proper books are being kept) on earnings over €38 per week

The details of gross pay less deductions for Tax & PRSI and the Class of PRSI paid should all be on his payslip
