Self-employed, no income now

Hi,
I am wondering if anyone could give me some information. My husband is a self employed tradesman (age 61) , has been all his life. He is not one of the ones who did very well out of the celtic tiger and we have struggled all the way along but got by.

Now work has totally dried up and he is owed some money, not a huge amount. But we have little income now for several weeks and the overdraft is maxed out.

I am wondering if we have any benefit options at all. Or ideas for work even better.

Hi what2do, welcome to AAM!

Moved to correct thread and read the key post here for info.

I'm really sorry you are dealing with this situation.
I would make an appointment with your local Community Welfare Officer.
They are usually located in or near the local health centre.

They should be able to advise you.

Good luck!

Hi what2do,
You can apply for Jobseekers Allowance if you are self employed but not working. You will be means tested for this.
Full details available here. And do also contact your local CWO as Mommah has suggested.

Do come back with any additional questions you may have - there are many people in similar circumstances right now.

Take care,
D8L
