Hi I'm wondering can anyone help me wit some info. My husband is self employed but currently is making little or no money. I have a reasonably good job earning bout €36,500 pa. Will my husband be entitled to anything from social welfare if he went into them. We are really struggling at the min as my net take home is €2,500 approx and our minimum living expenses €3000. We live very frugally but the creche fees for our daughter are tipping us over the edge. If we take her out of creche it means my husband has no time to try to get his business back up and profitable again.
Cheers

Read the keypost guide for Jobseeker's, particularly the means test link. Your husband's incoem from self-employment will be assessed, as well as your income, and Sw will decide whetehr his current leel of self-employment precludes him from getting Jobseeker's Allowance (i.e. number of hours worked as S/E measn he is not available for other work). Best way for him to go is to make a claim and get a definitie decision.

thanks. I've been looking into it online and it doesn;t look like we are entitled to get anything. It seems we may be better off if I were to cut down to a 3 day week as I would get Social Welfare for 2 days and that would entitle us to subsidy for the creche fees and possible FIS and mortgage assistance.

This country is a joke!
