Seeking Value for Money Solicitor in Galway area

I am looking for a solicitor who is cost effective to act on the sale of my house in Galway. Any suggestions. best quote I have got so far is €1,750 + VAT + Outlays which seems outraguous.

sorry, it does not exist in "rip-off" Republic of Ireland :)
 
If your house is a bog-standard estate house, which has had no changes since being bought, and which presents the prospect of a very straightforward sale, the fee is on the high side, but it doesn't stray into outrage territory.

If your house is a "one-off" on its own site, and particularly if a solicitor has not seen the title deeds, I don't think the quote is terribly unreasonable. Or perhaps it is in an apartment scheme where there are management company problems or similar, such that local solicitors would know that it is not going to be an easy fee?

There are certainly cheaper solicitors out there; if that is what you want, keep ringing around.

That would be cheap(ish) for a €300k house . Ring a coupla big builders and ask them who does cheap conveyancing, say you are a first time buyer, they will name cheapish solicitors for you

I have no idea if they are any good of course.
 
Be careful of taking recommendations on "cheap" solicitors from somebody you don't know or who has a vested interest in selling you something. Better to get recommendations from people you know and trust and to select a conveyancing solicitor on more than just price alone. Naturally you want value for money but you want to be sure that the job is done properly too. I am not a solicitor or in the legal or financial businesses by the way.
 
As mentioned above keep ringing around for quotations but it is very difficult to get anything done for a reasonable price in Ireland.

I got one in Galway city for 1100 +vat+outlays. As it is a new estate the outlays wil be small because he has done all the searches before on this estate.
 
Searches only show what has happened to the date they are made. I would be very wary of a solicitor who did not feel the need to carry out fresh searches for each transaction - unless they complete on the same day and the costs can be split between the clients.

We called up most of the solicitors in Galway to get the best price (as advised by my law lecturer) and Fidelma Bane was the cheapest. Her office is beside Argos on the headford road. Good Luck with the house .

we bought our house in galway and used a solicitor who came recommended by a family member, he was a wee bit more expensive than the "standard" one.

However there were several issues and he sorted it all out and was excellent and 100% professional and diligent, like all professions you will have the good , the bad and the ugly, if you go on price alone then...............................
