Seeking IT Contract work

I have been working in IT contracts for 14 years with 18 years IT experience. I work with programming mainly VB, any form of VB. I also have C++ experience but have no real Web development experience although I have built many Automation(off shelf and open source) type programs for Test and Production. I have mainly been working in the Financial Services sector for the last 12 years. I am based in Spain and am finding it impossible to get any replies from the likes of Jebserve website. I have applied for contracts that match my skills exactly yet received not replies. I am wondering if Jobserve contracts really exist. Does anybody have a real proof method of finding contract IT work anywhere in Europe (mainly London and Dublin) for someone like me with my skills searching externally from Spain...

Do you have .NET framework experience? It might be worth cross-training to C#, which would compliment your C++ experience. There are a lot more contracts out there in this area than VB as such.

i would try [broken link removed] and http://www.monster.ie for irish jobs. It might also be worth looking up at the contracting agencies in Ireland, e.g. Realtime IT.

I was in the business myself and have a lot of friends still in it. Nobody seems to have any problems at all getting new contracts, both in Dublin and London.

If the op is VB dev and looking to move into .net, vb.net would be a better transition.

Re c++, visual c++ targets .net framework also, c# would more resemble java than c.

op, as dtlyn says, it may be worth getting in touch directly with the recruiters, but personally i have always found it easier to get work through your previous contacts. someone usually knows someone who is lookong for work and a good recommendation goes a long way.
