Seeking horse racing information

Forgive me for seeking such obscure horse racing information but I am hoping somebody can point me in the right direction. My uncle drew a horse in the Irish Sweepstake which ran in the Epsom Derby and finished third. He won a lot of money as a result. I am now writing an article on the event but cannot find the year of the race. The name of the horse was Shantung - a french horse. It was the Derby of 1959, 1960 or 1961. I have tried all the usual websites i.e. Epsom derby, google etc but all list winners only. Can anybody help?

Thanks very much, Blinder. I honestly didn't think I would get the answer. My late uncle drew him and as he came 3rd the uncle won £5,000, a lot of money in 1959. The prize for 3rd was £10,000 but he sold half his share for £1,800 to a bookie - I think it was Terry R.ogers but not sure. Again many thanks - very much appreciated.
