Security Screen/Grilles/Trellis style

Hi
Anyone had first hand experience of installing the security screens in their property. I would welcome any opinions you may have as to whether they are of any use regarding the break ins etc.

i put trellis white coated steel in a couple of rented flats about 15 years ago. They are still in use - still look like new. However none of them are locked. They came with tubular locks which always gave trouble. In any event once they are closed they appear to be locked from the outside of the house.
They are not very attractive.
 
thanks 25euronote, not mad about the look of them either, but I want to feel secure. the front door was kicked (very easily I might add) as well as hoping to get a more secure door, there is a glass corner at the side of the door which is where I want the screens, I was also thinking of wrought iron grille, but that is probably more expensive.

yes I would have a problem with windows that needed access to - in my situation I need security grille at side of front door where there is a lot of glass - having already had the door kicked in - I am anxious to protect myself if the glass is ever kicked in -
