I am thinking of opening a secondhand book shop and was wondering if there are any secondhand book wholesalers where you can buy in bulk.

You should not open any business unless you know the fundamentals of how the business works.

The fundamental question in this business is how they source their books. EVen if that is answered, what makes the business a success is knowing what to buy and how much to pay. This takes time to learn so look for a job in a bookshop to learn the ropes.

I'd guess it would be very hard to make money in this business. There was a guy up one of the laneways in Dundrum for years, but he closed down a few years ago. It seemed more like a library than a bookshop, i.e. I brought in a load of books, got some credit from him, and took away a load of different books.

Banba bookshops in Capel St and Tara St both closed down some years ago also. AFAIK Chapters still do second-hand books so might be worth your while to check them out.

Agree with the guy who said it would be hard to make any money out of it. Even if you got the books for free you'd still have to sell 50-100 books a day a 2 or 3 euro each to be making any money from it.

If people want a second-hand book nowadays they usually go to ebay. If you have specialist knowledge about old books or comic books there might be a niche there but otherwise I'd say it'd be tricky.

edit - there might be more of a market in second-hand video games.
