Sealing Plasterboard

Anyone recommend what's the best way to seal plasterboard? I have a glass splashback that I need to stick to the plasterboard (the back of the splashback has an adhesive layer) so I just need something that will give a good gripping surface. Was thinking undercoat might do the job but not sure whether it should be an acryllic based one or not.

Then I don't think you want to seal it. The porous surface should allow the adhesive to cure more effectively. If you paint, you run the risk of the splash back just bonding to the coat of paint and nothing more substantial.
