SE Zylo phone on 3 dropping signal and not picking it back up

My daughter has a Sony Ericson Zylo, on the 3 network. Every so often it seems to go out of signal and not pick it up again.
i.e. Phone is switched on , not beng used , not switched to silent but no voice calls get through , they go to her voicemail directly and text messages dont get delivered .

When the phone is switched off and on she then gets the texts and missed call notifications.

I think it is happening when she goes out of signal range and phone then doesnt pick the signal back up until switched on and off.

Any ideas ?
 


Does it happen in the same area, it could just be a problem with the signal
 
happens in more than one area I think issue is if it goes into an area with weak ( or no ) signal , naturally it goes out of coverage ...but it doesnt pick signal back up when it moves to an area with signal
