Thinking of buying a screwfix own brand chainsaw, it's a erbauer and costs €254, doing a bit of cutting wood from a hedge that was removed, not talking oak so trunks are not especially thick , hired a digger so trees are on the ground

I'll likely never need to do this kind of cutting again as we have no trees around the place bar this leylandi
 
Dewalt fan myself, but no qibbles generally with Screwfix brand.

I'm wondering though if you could borrow / hire what you need. €250 for one off use seems a lot to me.

Don't forget your PPE.

De Walt are excellent but more for someone in a trade who uses everyday, I'm well aware those Chinese brands like screwfix own stuff is not in same league as de Walt , Stihl etc but it's a third the price and if will do the job ?, I'm fine with that

It's a 50cm bar
 
I purchased this very cheap one on screwfix for about €75 five years ago. It's corded. It's even cheaper now. Cut about 10 trees about 18 inch diameter with it into logs for firewood. Worked a treat although the chain was blunt by the end. Could probably sharpen or replace the chain but haven't had to use it since.

Well if a saw thats effective can be bought for €62 , mine at €254 should be well capable
 
As Danny said and reiterating , if it were me I'd hire it for a day. Got to be way cheaper than buying for one off use.

Not sure whats the objective of this thread, you've already made up your mind to buy the screwfix saw so good luck with that :)

Ok so bought the erbauer saw and it's really not strong enough for any kind of serious cutting, I'm sure I'll manage but it's a bit like pulling a double horse box with a Fiat punto at times
