Scam texts to be blocked as watchdog unveils text-messaging register

From article :

A new front in the war on scammers is to be opened later this year when communications watchdog ComReg rolls out a text-messaging register that will more easily flag and then block rogue SMS messages.

It said on Friday morning it was developing an SMS Sender ID Registry to ensure texting is “a reliable and trustworthy communications channel in Ireland”.

So still nothing to deal with scam calls, WhatsApp messages (maybe there's not much that they can do about these?), etc.?

This has been going on for years, feel like jam tomorrow territory still and only half a job to boot.

If comreg ran the ambulance service, patients would wait months for one to turn up.

Nothing at present as far as I'm aware. CLI spoof prevention is at early stages, and there is no international standard that I know of that covers it yet. Obviously regulators are looking for it though, so solution providers are popping up with their suggestions, as a good solution that becomes the standard or the outline for a standard would be a goldmine for the author.

Conor Pope had the story 24 hours ago and not a word on Comreg.ie yet…..

It’s ridiculous when state bodies do this.

Embargoes are fine but public should have the information as soon as it’s on a paywalled media site.
