I am hoping to open a savings account, preferably with interest that also offers a ATM or Cash card. It seems from a number of banks I have looked at particularly if a card is required, then the account needs to be a type of current account whereby a debit card is issued & fees applied. Best buy recommendations is a great starting point for interest & specific terms but would anyone know of a savings account or regular savings product that offers a ATM card option.

ATM cards are normally only issued with current accounts. You will not get a good return from a current account.

You need to open both a current account and a savings account. You can wire money between each of the accounts online.

It's not a laser card - just a basic atm card. No fees except government €2.50 duty per year if you use the card.

Compared to a current a/c your only missing direct debits and standing orders if you register for 365 banking.

Thank you Teresa1, BOI may be an option then & I also think Ulster Bank have a s/a type with a cash card. Thanks Ciaran, good idea to drip feed as needed from an account with a higher interest, will keep that in mind.

I recently opened a current account with PTSB and then opened an online savings account with them also (something like 2.85%, I think). I havent started using the savings account yet, but today I used my Visa Debit card in a PTSB ATM and it gave me the option of using my current account or my savings account. I dont know if would allow me to remove cash from the savings account (I couldnt test as I dont have any funds in it), maybe it only allows me to order statements etc, but it might be worth looking in to.

The PTSB ATM card does not yet you take money out of your savings account. The on-screen message on the ATM machine is misleading.
