Hi there,

Do you have to return the income from saving certificates on your income tax return?

I note the 2007 return mentions special saving accounts. But am I correct in assuming that income from savings certificates do not have to be returned on an income tax return because they are exempt from tax?

Thanks.

Special Savings Accounts are something different to Savings Certificates. And Special Savings Investment Accounts. They were accounts introduced a few years back (was it as far back as the 90s currency crisis!?!) with a lower rate of DIRT than normal.

Earnings from Savings Certificates from An Post are tax free. No return to Revenue is required on them.
