Satellite cable pierced, but is now working

Our Sky went down the other night - The first time ever!
After leaving it for a while, assuming it was a problem in the area, I pulled out the TV stand and fiddled about with the cables in case something was dislodged.
No luck.

I pushed the TV back in to position and then it started to work again, as I pushed it.
I stepped back and then it stopped working again.

It was as though it worked when I stood near the TV.

I investigated further - It seems that the cable from the satellite to the Sky box was resting on the carpet grippers and was pierced in multiple places with small holes.

I assume that the problem was that the nails were touching the wire in the cable, causing an interference with the signal.

I tucked the cable along the gripper and it is now fine.

Should I get the cable fixed / replaced?

There doesn’t seem a need, as it is now working fine.

Is there any danger with it being under the carpet?

Thanks

I would leave it or at most wrap insulating tape around it, as per Serotoninsid's post. This would help stop air from oxidising the copper, not that it would matter much. I would not bother with replacing the cable and using a F joiner unless you find it shorting internally again, each extra connection wil lose you about .5 db of signal gain.
