Hi,

I am thinking about getting satelite broadband,
does anyone have any advice?

We are living in a rural area with no broadband service available.

Thanks

My understanding of it, as an observer only at this stage, is that even for satellite broadband, there must be a provider in your area. Maybe some of our more learned contributors can elaborate though.

Check out the boys and girls over on too. They appear to be going through a bit of an upgrade at the moment but they do have regional websites like [broken link removed] etc.

satelite broadband is availble everywhere BUT does have a number of issues.

equipment is very expensive
most systems (not digiweb) are 1 way which means all inputs and upstream traffic goes via a very slow 56k modem and all downloads are delivered by sat so you are still using the phone.

all systems have very high ping numbers means that gaming and remote desktops are out.

isdn might be a better option until broadband comes to your area
