It has been a long ambition of mine to do part of this walk. However when I see it advertised it is usually associated with a charity or fundraiser event.
Does anyone know of a group of people who might be organising a walk or partial walk of the route that is not charity related?

you could do it alone?
We flew to Santiago and got the bus out 100km and started from there. Very easy to meet people en route - though some people like to walk alone. It's beautiful scenery, and you can take your time if you're there off-peak (i.e. you're not getting up at dawn to rush to the next hostel).
Thousands of websites out there that talk about the walk - or try this Irish group, they may be able to help with some info for some organised groups: http://www.stjamesirl.com/?page_id=30

And bring a cape, you can don it mid-walk over your day pack instead of having to stop to take off the pack, thus getting even wetter when it rains....... and it will rain!

Tintangel,
Sorry for the late reply. There is no downside to your ambition to do some or part of the camino.
Its different for everybody.
I have been very lucky for the past 2 years to get a weeks walking in.
Everything is down to yourself- very few have the time to do it all in one go.
Grab yourself a copy of John Brierley's book on the camino. I have found it a great resource in planning.
Buen camino.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I think I would like to do part of this walk in a small group, strangely not for any religious reasons though.

Hi,
If you're still interested, i've just read about this:
(ps, also about your last post - when people mention Pilgrimage, i don't think they necessarily mean a religious pilgrimage - it can just refer to a walk)

The Irish Society of the Friends of St. James, which is a voluntary organisation founded in Ireland in 1992 to promote the pilgrim routes to Santiago de Compostela in north western Spain is inviting to their annual event, which is called "The Spirit of the Camino", in Wynn's Hotel (Lower Abbey Street, Dublin 1; directions: http://www.wynnshotel.ie/map.php) on Sat 21 Nov. The event starts at 14:15 with a audio visual presentation by Kuni Bahnen, who is the founder of the German Jakobusgesellschaft in Aachen. This will be followed by a group of Irish students talking about their individual experiences on the Camino. admission is free.
