Santander/Bilbao

Anyone been? Flying into Santander and out of Bilbao at the end of May - 5 nights in total.

Which areas are the best to stay in? Don't want to be off the beaten track. I'm not a "don't want it to be too touristy" - the more touristy the better as far as I'm concerned.

Also, any recommendations for nice hotels? Budget approx €100 pr/pn.

Stayed in the Abba Parque Hotel in Bilbao , 10 minutes from both the Guggenheim & the Gran Via & somewhat less to the San Mames where Atleti play.

No hesitation in recommending Bilbao - plenty to see , good bars & restaurants with great pintxos ( the Basque version of tapas ) & a vibrant riverside scene.

We stayed in the Barcelo Hotel Nervion in Bilbao. On the opposite side of the river but that was not a problem. Midway between the Old Town and the Guggenheim. Always good deals available. We travelled between Santander and Bilbao by bus and then on to San Sebastian.
