A house I was watching close to where I live recently went 'sale agreed'... I called the EA but they wouldn't reveal the price... Is this normal practice?

The house is sale agreed, they could have told you but don't have to. You can find it in the future through the property price register. Who knows, the sale could fall through and come to the market again.

It can depend, when I was looking last year and I phoned about a particular house and discovered it was sale agreed, some would tell you the amount, whereas most just said it went above asking.
They probably dont want to start bidding again in fairness, as theyve a solid offer accepted.

If it was sale agreed within 2-3 weeks of going on the market, then it went for a decent amount over the asking price.

If it been on the market for 6+ weeks, it will be close to the asking price

If you don't know the asking price, check myhome.ie - it will say "sale agreed" and price won't be visible, but look at where they have "affordability" and the mortgage calculator. - It has the price inclusive of 1% stamp duty
see here https://www.myhome.ie/residential/brochure/43-mount-anville-park-goatstown-dublin-14/4581702
Affordability = €858500, so the asking price was €850,000

If you are thinking of selling. Tell the agent, and they will be very quick to tell you the sale agreed price.
