Sale advertised, but not given discount until questioned about it

Recently I went my local pharmacy.

At the entry point, there were posters of about 3 products which has some offers on them.

I bought one of the products, the discounted rate was not mentioned in the price label. While billing, I asked the cost of the product, and the person behind the counter mentioned the regular cost of the product. So I asked him whether the product was on sale. He said 'NO'. Then I asked in that case why have they advertised about the offers at the entry point. He said he'll check it and came back and told me it was on sale and I had to pay the reduced cost.

I could have understood if lots of products are on sale and the person behind the counter cannot keep everything in memory. But if only 2-3 products are on sale, shouldn't the person at the till be aware of it. Or shouldn't they at least have a new label with the new price?

Could it just be a error? Isn't it possible that people who didn't notice the offer were charged the regular price if they didn't ask about it?

Your questions appear to be rhetorical. :)

You seem to be complaining about the poor quality of service as opposed to any particular consumer issue or right.
