Safe to send Credit Card details by post?

I'm looking to get some black and white film developed and will have to post it all with a printed pdf form to a well established Irish company that specialises in this kind of work. On the form I am asked to fill in my CC details, including security code. Doesn't seem too safe to send these details, even by registered post, or am I being paranoid?

no I wouldn't do that definitely not with security code, what if letter got lost and it falls into wrong hands. Ring them and tell them you will give credit card details over the phone.

Your credit card is sent to you by post - whats the difference? And the card in the envelope is much more obvious.

I have had my replacement card robbed in the post and it was used in Fraudulent transactions.

Dont you have to activate the card when you firstt receive it? At least you do in the UK.

My card was intercepted in the post - They signed the back of it and used it in shops in around grafton st coming up to Xmas - dont know how thye were caught - But i dont remember having to activate the card at any stage when a replacement is sent.

Sounds about right - I'll see what they'll say. Thanks.

Could you get a disposable credit card (CVV?) for the exact amount and post that...

It's surprising how many companies do this. I used to subscribe to National Geographic and their renewal system required a manual form in which you input the details.

Ringing in your number may not be secure either. Strong possibility the agent will write it down and what if the call is being recorded?.

Using a website may also not be secure. After all, how many credit card details have been stolen from databases in recent years.

The reality is that there is no truly secure method of easily providing your credit card details remotely. However, if you have a concern why not split it in 2, send the company your credit card number and ask them to ring you when they are ready to process the transaction and you can give them your CVV number over the phone. ?

Plenty of pharmacies still take film to be developed & printed, colour or B&W. Camera shops may take film as well. AFAIK all print film now uses the standard C41 development process for 33mm film but other formats may be different. They'll process payment on the spot, cash or card.
