Aer Lingus flight from Liverpool to Dublin Sunday night 06/07 costs £45.37. The breakdown is: fare £4, UK passenger duty £13 and UK passenger service charge £28.37
Ryanair flight from Liverpool to Cork same Sunday night costs £51 and says "you do not pay government taxes".
Both basic fare, no additives.
Does anyone know if Ryanair is just being sneakily pedantic that passenger duty and service charge are not taxes, or are they actually pocketing the whole amount?
Both flights are from UK to Ireland.
I suspect Ryanair is saying there is no government tax, so that if it is by law refundable, they can say "you didn't pay tax". If a passenger tried reclaiming flight costs from insurance, the insurers would withhold the passenger duty etc, on the basis that the airline should refund them.
There's a tile shop that has a "vat free" sale and takes 23% off everything (if it was really vat free it would be about 19% off the vat inclusive price)
But they still pay the vat over. Another marketing blurb.
