Ryanair flight cancellation

Hi all,

the return flight of my spanish flights with Ryanair was cancelled on the 29th of Sep 2010, due to a general strike. I turned up to check in due to not having access to my email during my trip. At the check in desk staff directed my party to a queue to arrange new flights. On eventually reaching the top of the queue we were informed that our next opportunity to fly back to Dublin was 06 Oct 2010. I asked how we were to manage for a week in Spain and was replied with a shrug of the shoulders. We took the flights since we felt that we had no option.

We left the airport to the nearest hotel and logged on to my email. There were some email notifications from the 28th of Sep that my flights had been cancelled. Deciding that we couldn't afford to stay in hotel (2 adults, 2 children) for a week, I booked flights to Belfast for the 30 Sep with Aer Lingus. We took the train back to Dublin airport to collect my car after flying into Belfast.

Today I contacted commission for aviation regulation to see if they had any advice. They stated that I was only entitled to a refund on my return leg flight and no more though I could take a small claims court action and make a complaint to aviation authorities.

I've just rang the ryanair reservation number in the hope of cancelling the flights on the 6th and at least getting that money back. I was informed that they could not deal with customer service issues or transfer me to someone who could.

The ryanair website just has a fax and postal address for written complaints.

Does anyone have any advice as to what I could do in order to at the least get my return leg flights refunded?

Thanks
