boards.ie is probably a better bet for this question.

Here’s one older thread on the RX-8 + tax.

and a longer one on the RX-8 in general

Sounds as if it was initially registered before the middle of 2008 you can pay tax at the 1.8 rate (despite the actual engine size), but if after that point it seems that it’s the maximum 2258 p.a. rate. The motor tax office is black and white, there’s no way of persuading them to tax it for anything less than what the powers that be have decided.

Unless you’re on a very high income, it’s hard to justify the Irish running costs on a post 2008 RX-8.

Thats not quite true AShambles, you can get an Rx8 registered as a 1.3 - see towards the end of this thread: http://www.irishrotary.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4971

You need to get the RF111 for stamped by a garage to certify its a 1.3 and sent that in to motor tax office.

I have been meaning to change mine but havent gotten around to it yet.

OP, if you have an RX8 i'd suggest joining that site, we're very friendly :D

Its true on the tax cost though, post 2008 it doesnt matter about engine size, tax is crazy money at over two grand.
