Rust on exhaust

Hi
I imported a car from the UK recently - there is a lot of rust on the exhaust - I was not overly concerned because it appears to be very localised ie just on the underside of the exhaust box and no where else underneath the car.

Two questions.

1. Should I be worried - car is only two years old
2.should I treat the rust with something to slow down degredation? if so, what should I use?

Any advice appreciated

apparently (or so i've heard) alot of UK improts have rust underneath the car, because in the UK they put salt on the roads in cold weather.

cant be of any help though i'm afraid.

Rub it off with a wire brush. Apply rust remedy too.

salt on the roads is the main cause, but also the petrol cars will lead to rust on the exhaust quicker than a diesel too,, just clean it really,,, and any other brackets, etc located on the underside,, especially the steel brake lines too, its down the road when u go for the NCT that you may have problems.
